permissions issues and cloud backup problems

Postby gazzawazza » Mon Mar 13, 2017 3:52 pm

hi

i have sent emails to 7minutesfeedback@gmail.com but for anyone using the forums:

1) I have been having issues with the "keep data in cloud" option in the app's settings

2) app permissions not being set

The two issues are connected.

You need the "storage" permission for keep data in cloud to work (i believe). if you get "network error", you should check your permissions. I get permission pop-ups in the app but permissions do not get set in Android. I am on Sony official 6.0.1 on a z3 compact.

build 1.344.89
At least with build 1.344.89, once permissions were set (manually) and you clicked on "keep data in cloud" (and chose your google account, etc), you would get the "resolve conflict" pop-up (appeared automatically), which allows you to choose your cloud data backup as correct one for workout data.

build 1.345.90
With build 1.345.90, I have not seen the "resolve conflict" pop-up yet. I have set "storage" and "telephone" permissions. I have no workout history in the app because "keep data in cloud" just reports I am logged in but that I've "never backed up". It is like it is not detecting my google drive workout data. The data is there though in google drive - I have checked. At least this worked in the last build.

I hate it when a newer version of an app is worse than the previous version.

I wonder if I have to click on "backup" and it will detect my cloud data. I do not want to risk it though. This was the good thing about the 1.344.89 version - "resolve conflict" would appear automatically.

To be fair to the dev, I should say that Google fit seems to connect more easily now but that's the only improvement over the last version. Everything else is a regression.

summary
Offering backup and restore of data is fantastic. When it doesn't work, it is terrible. Backing up data is about trust and reliability. If there are problems, it breaks trust. People rely on backups to work. This must be 100% robust and reliable.
